The Middle Eastern Version of Democracy

While NZ has it's problems , thousands are dying on the other side of the World because of a simple belief in a right to democracy , whatever that may mean in a particular country .

Through our media we have encouraged this belief and these expectations . We have a responsibility to support these movements , but we also need to be realistic in the democratic beliefs we portray . Some of these governments have been in power for years , supported by Western governments . They are and have been run by " acceptable " ( in Western eyes ) thugs . The Region's ordinary men and women deserve better .

In case it has not been noticed , the West ( and now China ) is more interested in oil than democracy in the region .
