This item could have added this to " A Bit of This and That - 11 " , but the issue of spanking and children is more important than to be buried in another post .
This posting is not about spanking children , we all have our own views on the subject . Personally I think some adults would benefit from a spanking more than most children . Children need to be lead , not spanked .
" Political Correctness " is an evil thing , particularly when pseudo science is relied upon . Blogs are the greatest offenders in repeating , in this case absolute rubbish about spanking and children's IQ scores . I suspected that this was the case when I first read about a so called " scientific study " on the subject which was taken as absolute truth by thousands of Blogger Lemmings . Firstly , the original Press Release was reproduced , mostly without substantive comment . Next , anyone with half a brain could see that other factors may be involved ( parents IQ , socioeconomic factors , mental illness etc. ) , the " study " did not address these variables in a meaningful way .
Anyway , it is time to step back and let an expert have a go at debunking this " Study " , please go to : Are Spanked Kids Really Dumb Kids ? to read why so much of what is being said is rubbish . ( The Amazon link in the article does not work , it should be to " How to Be Your Own Therapist " . )
