Denial of Service Attack Upon All Spankoz Sites

Wednesday, September 9 , 2009 at approximately 1:10 PM EST (US) a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack commenced . This attack took down 2,500 sites , including all four Spankoz sites .

Once the IPs being used in this attack were identified, this information was sent to Level3, XO,Sprint, and Verizon (the network carriers who provide us with connectivity) to firewall the addresses in their routers. After some fine tuning, the attack was entirely blocked by 10:15pm EST (US) and service restored to normal. Our sites were back online within 90 minutes . Email servers were also affected by the attack .
