The title is a little cryptic because the story behind this photograph was " lifted " from our site and published last year on another Blog . How do I know ? Well , I did the original research , including having a copy of the local newspaper posted to me , the photographs still have my names and a factual error I had purposely put into the article was reproduced . A link back would have been nice .
Details of this photograph are on the Spankoz SANDRA HILDER Page . It's appeal is in the realism ( particularly the facial expressions ) shown and the crescent shaped ridge caused by the previous impact(s) of his hand ( it looks like a reversed " C " on the rather poor enlargement below ) .
For the history buffs , he was in Sydney for the annual Coral Sea Week Celebrations after the USN stopped the Japs advancing in the Pacific in WW II ( this fact is sometimes lost by the locals ) . It is also not widely known that the first Jap defeat on land was in 1942 by Australian troops at Milne Bay .
